If you put down your smartphones for 10 Minutes, a child will get a day worth of fresh, clean drinking water. It seems unreal right? But it is completely true. If you literally set your phone down for 10 minutes sponsors like Giorgio Armani will donate money to the UNICEF Tap Project. This money will be used in many ways like providing fresh water to kids and families and sanitation and hygiene programs in the neediest countries. According to the organization,”768 million people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water, and 2.5 billion people live without proper sanitation.”
To be part of this challenge, the people that are willing to participate have to go to UNICEF Tap Project’s website (tap.unicefusa.org) on their phones and begin the challenge. The longer the phone is down the more donations are going to be made. When the clock starts ticking many facts about global water use are shown in the screen. For example: “538 million emails have been sent in the time you’ve been without your phone”. You are technically still using your phone because you still can take screenshots and read every fact that appears on the screen about the use of water. The purpose of the challenge is to keep you off social networking, emails, and texts so that you can learn about this greater cause and use your device to share it with others.
If you resist you will see an image like these ones:
(FYI those are some of my achievements)
I think this is a fast and easy way to help people in need. I sit really hard to stop using your phone for 10 minutes? If you are one of those people that can´t manage to stop using your phone there are plenty of other ways you can contribute, five dollars can give 200 days of fresh clean drinkable water. So what do you say, are you up for the challenge?
