Citizen journalism is a new method people use to communicate and transfer information. Other names for citizen journalism are participatory journalism, democracy in street journalism. A citizen journalist will collect, analyze, report and broadcast news and information communicating people important events that are happening in society. The publications these citizens make are usually online and Live; therefore when a news is uploaded it will come viral and noticed faster and even if it is brought down people will have already seen it..
Some of the effects citizen journalism have in society are the increment of cellular use, and technology such as Instagram, Facebook, and twitter since this are some of the media used by the People to communicate the news. Thanks to the new technology citizens can report news more quickly than media reporters. Since the videos do not pass a filter before being uploaded. Due to the fact that citizens use the Internet to pass news, the use of technology and media has increased while the use of newspaper has decreased. Street journalism provides everyone the possibility to have an equal voice, since anyone can be a ambassador of citizen journalism. News is normally passed Live and are not censored or edited. This type of journalism gives a closer look into the real perspective of news. Finally citizen journalism holds authority to more accountability and police brutality among other issues are portrayed to society and are taken care of. Tim Pool is the most recognized Citizen journalist and he has 68,4K followers in twitter and more than 10K tweets. As everything, citizen journalism has its negative views. Professional Journalists citizen the reporters for being inaccurate chaotic and not being objective since they can tape only one side of the story, the use of traditional journalistic value of objectivity does not seem to be used in this type of journalism. People involved in recording the news are normally inside the whole chaos and it can be dangerous for them since they don’t have any kind of protection as real reporters do. The integrity of the journalism industry begins to be question if journalism is a real profession because now anyone could be citizen journalism.
